Butterfly Birthday

Having three little boys I don't get to use much pink around my home, so when my sister asked me to help with my niece's 2nd birthday party I was super excited. We started by choosing a pink and purple butterfly theme. I contacted Gretchen of Chichiboulie to see if she would be willing to provide some of her wonderful artwork for the invitation. Since then Gretchen and I have worked together on a couple projects and I hope to do more soon. Her illustrations are so whimsical and added the perfect touch to the invitation. I also was excited to have an excuse to make some tissue paper peonies which were beautiful during the party and now add to the decor in my niece's playroom. All in all it was a party fit for a special little girl! For the rest of the party details see below.

Carnival Party!

This party all started with a cake! My 4 year old twins were looking at pictures from our favorite bakery and stumbled across their fabulous popcorn cake. After picking the cake and listening to their pleas of having their 4th birthday party at a bounce house party facility I decided the best way to combine the two was to do a carnival theme. This was the first time I have held a birthday party outside of my home and it was awesome! My twins birthday falls during early spring which is usually cold and rainy here so we are limited with what we can do at home. Monkey Joe's provided an great party atmosphere and the kids loved it! Of course I had to bring along my own party decor goodie bags! See below for all the party details.

Invitations were custom made by Busy Bee Paperie.

Cake was from Pat A Cakes & Cookies Too.

Party Decor was made from a printable party package from Dimple Prints.

Popcorn Goodie Bags were made from popcorn containers purchased from Hobby Lobby, candy from a local candy shop, and tiny popcorn bags filled with good old puffy corn.

My baby turned 2 years old on December 20th! He loves dinosaurs so naturally we decided to throw him a party which included his favorite thing. Allison Casey Paper created a custom invite, Pat-A-Cakes & Cookies Too made the awesome dinosaur cake, the cute t-shirt was created by BowDacious Baby, and all the party decor (cupcake toppers, birthday banner, and goodie bags) were handmade with love by Busy Bee Paperie. A great time was had by all and it was a special day to remember!

I love a good project so when it came time to come up with a craft for preschool friend gifts I decided to make cookie jars. I got the idea from Stacy Claire Boyd's blog who got her idea from Bakerella's blog. I varied mine slightly by changing the colors to red, green, and brown, and omitted the pecans from the recipe for the classmates who have nut allergies. I created my own labels and gift tags, printed them on adhesive paper, stuck them to the jar and voila....homemade cookie jars! I included my husband and boys in the process and we had a great time assembling the jars together. We had so much fun working as a team this may be our new Holiday project for every year. The jars got a great response from all who received them and the cookies were super delicious!

Exciting things are happening at Busy Bee Paperie! If you are within driving distance to Indianapolis I would highly recommend paying Leah Severson a visit. She does beautiful portraits of children of all ages, pregnancy, families, and also does some amazing senior portraits. These pictures would be a great addition to send out with your birth announcements, birthday invites, or graduation announcements. Leah has photographed all three of my children and I have been thrilled with the results. I will forever treasure these portraits and enjoy looking back at them as my children grow up. Did you know that the (unofficial) kick off date of wedding season is the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend? Many couples will walk down the aisle between May and September with June being the most popular month. Bug theme party options
For the games...have a bug hunt. Hide (fake) bugs all over the backyard or inside the house,then provide the kiddos with a bug collecting bag and pretend magnifying glass so they can inspect the bugs once they have found them.

Some buggy snacks include ants on a log (raisins on peanut butter celery sticks), dirt pudding, bug gummy snacks, and a bug theme cake.

Decorate with "grass", bugs, and magnifying glasses.

For the baseball party
For the games.....baseball of course! For smaller children, provide them with plastic bats and wiffle balls and play a game of Home Run Derby. Simply draw a line in your yard to determine what a Home Run is and have the kids take three swings to see who gets a Home Run.

There are so many options for baseball snacks....a few are popcorn, peanuts, and cracker jacks. Hot dogs and nachos are also a must.

Decorate with red, white, and blue streamers and have party guests wear their favorite team's hat.

Out of this world party ideas
Have a moon rock hunt! Decorate rocks with glow in the dark paint, glitter, and or aluminum foil. Hide the rocks around the house and set the kids loose to hunt. Whoever finds the most moon rocks wins a prize!

Turn you favorite Frisbee into a game of flying saucer! Split the kids into two teams and play touch football Frisbee or Frisbee tag.

Some great snack options are flying saucer pizza, Cosmic Candy (cotton candy), Jell-O Planets, and Alien juice (green soda pop or 7up with green food coloring or green ice cubes).

To decorate make your own "space room". Anything that glows in the dark is a must. You can also make your own planets (construction paper, glow in the dark paint, and glitter) to hang around the room.

A Pirate Party
Have a treasure hunt or play musical islands (use hula hoops to stand in instead of chairs).

Meal ideas for your little mates include hot dog ships (spear a toothpick through a small piece of paper to make a sail and then pierce it through a hot dog, then add a few Goldfish crackers). Serve with some frosty ale (root beer) in a mug. Don't forget the pirate cake!

Treasure chests, fish netting, and skeletons are just a few ideas of how to make your house ready for the high seas.

Whatever theme you choose to have, remember to include the Birthday boy in the party planning and decorating. This will be one Birthday he will never forget!
